Ahmad Samir Altaqi ((アラビア語:أحمد سمير التقي)). (born 1 January 1951) is a Syrian researcher and a political activist. He currently runs the Orient Research Centre in Dubai in the capacity of General Director. Al Taqi is also a cardio-vascular surgeon. He has gradually shifted to politics and was involved in diplomacy in Syria. He has previously served as Director of Orient Centre for International Studies in Damascus until 2010. Al Taqi worked as a visiting professor at Saint Andrews University, Scotland, United Kingdom. ==Early life and career== Altaqi is a cardio-vascular surgeon. He graduated in 1975 Altaqi from the faculty of Medicine, University of Aleppo, before advancing his studies in Cardio-Vascular Surgery. He has worked as a head of Plastic Surgery department at Al-Razi Hospital, Aleppo andwas appointed as head of medical services at the Health Department at the Governorate of Aleppo where he supervised and audited the operation of all the hospitals at the governorate. In 2000, while Altaqi was practicing as Head of Medical Staff at Red Crescent Hospital in Damascus, he was assigned as a consultant to the Syrian Minister of Health. The Syrian Foreign Ministry financed the Orient Research Centre for International Studies in Damascus, and Altaqi became the General Director of the centre. Later, in 2010 the centre closed due to a dispute between the government management. Altaqi is a visiting professor at Saint Andrews University, Scotland, United Kingdom and he is currently the General Director of the Orient Research Center, based in the United Arab Emirates. In 2004, he was assigned as a consultant to the Syrian Prime Minister for Health Issues, Where he dealt with the projects of Syrian Health Planning and Reform, Health insurance system and medical services organization. Meanwhile, ِin 2005 Altaqi was assigned as the Director of the Orient Center for International Studies, the center was Specialized in Foreign and Strategic Studies affiliated to the Syrian foreign ministry, in Damascus, Syria. In 2010, the Orient Centre for International Studies in Damascus was closed as a part due to political oppression campaign.〔() 〕 He spent the Academic year 2010/2011 as an academic fellow at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. In 2011, Altaqi has established the Orient Research Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He is currently running the centre as a General Manager.
